I was glad to read this short piece by Joe Perez. Actually, I’m usually glad to read whatever Joe writes, but I’ve been concerned lately with what I’ve seen expressed in spiritual circles in terms of embracing simplicity as the answer to complex issues. This applies to all areas of our day-to-day lives: politics, relationships, consuming, child-rearing, and spiritual work. Nuance matters. This doesn’t negate the value of simplicity but we should be careful not to cling to elegance less we diminish its offering.
Anyway, give Joe a read:
I do worry when some folks talk about embracing paradox if they really mean to counsel an escape into an anarchic mind. Anarchy is best embraced in moderation.
